To become an IAS officer, candidates must pass the highly competitive Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. This examination consists of three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Personality Test (Interview). Successful candidates are allocated to various state cadres or central government cadres, where they are responsible for the administration and governance of their respective regions.
