How Do You Spell AD?
The two-letter word "ad" is easy to spell, but its phonetic transcription, /æd/, can be confusing to those unfamiliar with the International Phonetic Alphabet. The first symbol, /æ/, represents the "short a" sound, pronounced with the mouth slightly open, like in the word "cat." The second symbol, /d/, represents the voiced dental plosive, made by placing the tongue behind the upper teeth and quickly releasing a burst of air, as in the word "dog." Together, these symbols make up the phonetic transcription for "ad."
