Pope Benedict II was the bishop of Rome and served as the head of the Catholic Church from 684 to 685 AD. Born in Rome, Benedict II was elected as the 81st Pope of the Church following the death of his predecessor Pope Leo II. He is recognized for his relatively short but eventful pontificate.
During his time as Pope, Benedict II dealt with various ecclesiastical and political matters. He actively worked to resolve conflicts within the Church, including intervening in a dispute over the appointment of an archbishop in Ravenna, Italy. His efforts were successful, and he was able to foster unity and peace among the clergy.
Benedict II also had interactions with various rulers and political figures of his time. He maintained diplomatic relations with Emperor Constantine IV of the Byzantine Empire and supported his policies. This led to the Emperor granting privileges to the Church and confirming the decisions of the Fourth Ecumenical Council under Benedict's authority.
Despite his relatively short papacy, Pope Benedict II made significant contributions to the administration and spiritual welfare of the Catholic Church. His efforts in resolving conflicts within the Church and maintaining relations with political leaders helped to strengthen the authority of the papacy. After his death in 685 AD, Benedict II was succeeded by Pope John V.
