RBB is an acronym that stands for "Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy." It is a framework or model used in education and learning to categorize learning objectives and activities based on cognitive complexity. RBB, developed by educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom in 1956, has been widely used to classify and assess educational goals.
RBB consists of six levels of cognitive processes, each with its own verbs that describe the skills or actions associated with it. The levels are arranged in a hierarchical order, with lower levels forming the building blocks for achieving higher-level objectives. The six levels of RBB, from lowest to highest cognitive complexity, are Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating.
Remembering involves recalling facts or information. Understanding focuses on interpreting or explaining concepts, ideas, or theories. Applying refers to using knowledge and understanding in new situations. Analyzing involves breaking down complex information or ideas into smaller components. Evaluating comprises making judgments based on given criteria. Creating is the highest level, emphasizing the generation of new ideas, designs, or solutions.
Educators and instructional designers use RBB to develop appropriate learning activities, assessments, and lesson plans that align with specific cognitive goals.
